Visit to Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to see how Baggins is being used to support young patients and enhance their hospital experience. The morning began with a warm welcome and a chance to meet Baggins, followed by a viewing of the vibrant Baggins artwork displayed outside Ward 12. We then joined the ward, where Baggins is brought to life through engaging displays and activities, and had the opportunity to see the bear interacting with patients.

The team also visited the Brontë Theatre to view an impressive large-scale Baggins installation, before meeting with key members of the Trust, including ‘Baggins Mama’ Kelly Townsend (Community & Events Fundraiser), Ellen Hicks (Head of Communications), and Jackie Dawson (Head of Fundraising). Discussions focused on the continued success of the programme and opportunities for future development.

A key highlight of the visit was speaking with the ward team about the positive impact Baggins is having. The initiative plays a significant role in helping to calm and comfort children during their hospital stay, particularly in the lead-up to surgery.

The visit concluded with a fond farewell from Baggins, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

We are inspired by the dedication and creativity of the team at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in using our Baggins the Bear initiative to make such a meaningful difference to children and their families.

Our Baggins the Bear collection was designed to ease anxiety and distract paediatric patients undergoing anaesthesia. The range compliments our range of bagging systems and reservoir bags. View our dedicated page for further information.
